Eddie Money

Eddie Money live in concert
1984

One of my first favorite rock stars was Eddie Money. When his first album came out in December 1977, it immediately struck a note. I've probably seen Eddie as many times as any band, including the Brandywine Club in 1984, West Chester University in 1989, the Soberfest tour at the Pat Garrett Amphitheater, a casino in Atlantic City, the Chestnut Cabaret in 1992, and Xfinity Live in Philadelphia, PA.

Perhaps the most entertaining time I saw Eddie was at Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. It started raining hard right when the show was supposed to begin, so they wrapped all the gear in plastic. When it became clear the skies weren’t going to open up, Eddie came out with a bullhorn and sang three crowd favorites. It was a beautiful moment — the audience sang every word to every song, loud and proud. And we all got to ride the rides all day and have the best in-person Eddie Money concert for free, as they refunded our tickets.

Some songs I've seen played live: Page 1 and Page 2

The first time I saw Eddie was at the Brandywine Club for the Where's the Party? tour. Though there is no record of the exact setlist, I recall these songs being played:

In 1989, Eddie played West Chester University with Warrant opening the show. Warrant's lead singer, Jani Lane, came out in a dress and makeup to sing Ronnie Spector's part on Take Me Home Tonight. Eddie also played Two Tickets to Paradise, Baby Hold On, Shakin', Walk on Water, Dancing with Mr. Jitters, Endless Nights, I Wanna Go Back (Billy Satellite cover), Let Me In, No Control, Rock and Roll the Place, Wanna Be a Rock 'n' Roll Star, The Love in Your Eyes, Think I'm in Love, Gimme Some Water, and Where's the Party?

The most intimate time with Eddie was during the Unplug It In tour on April 4, 1992 at the Chestnut Cabaret in Center City Philadelphia. After the show, we hung out backstage for as long as we wanted. Eddie conversed and laughed with us for a long time.

The setlist included: Gimme Some Water, She Takes My Breath Away, Save a Little Room in Your Heart for Me, You've Really Got a Hold on Me (Smokey Robinson & The Miracles cover), Two Tickets to Paradise, Trinidad, Fall in Love Again, Running Back, and Get a Move On.

The last time I saw Eddie, he was still rockin'. On July 3, 2012, Eddie played to a huge holiday crowd at the Freedom Fest in Philadelphia. His setlist included Baby Hold On, I Wanna Be a Rock and Roll Star, Walk On Water, Trinidad, No Control, Two Tickets To Paradise and Take Me Home Tonight. Thank you to radio station WMGK 102.9 for another great Let Freedom Rock concert.
