ABOUT THE SHOW

Thirty Seconds to Mars performed a private “Church of Mars” concert at the Temple Performing Arts Center (specifically, the Lew Klein Performance Hall) at Temple University in Philadelphia on Monday, May 13, 2013.

This intimate, free show was organized in conjunction with local radio station 104.5 WRFF to promote their upcoming album, Love Lust Faith + Dreams, which was released later that month. The Philadelphia show was one of four “Church of Mars” events held in select cities (Boston, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Philadelphia) to debut new material and prepare for their world tour.

During the performance, lead singer Jared Leto adopted a “preacher” persona, referring to the event as “church” in keeping with the “Church of Mars” theme, and engaged the audience with anecdotes and calls to “worship.” During “Up in the Air,” he invited dozens of audience members onto the stage for the time of their lives. A highlight came when Jared jumped off the stage during “The Kill” and into the audience, where I filmed him up close.
